<p>Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/face-screaming-in-fear/">previously featured</a> a <a href="/ghost/">ghost</a> flying from its mouth. <a href="/weary-cat/">🙀&nbsp;Weary Cat Face</a> bears a similar expression.</p>

<p>Google&#39;s design <a href="/google/android-4.4/flushed-face/">previously featured</a> a more bashful expression and <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.0/flushed-face/">Samsung</a>, a more ashamed one. An <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/flushed-face/">early Microsoft design</a> featured an awkward smile.</p>

Flushed Face

<p>A face with small, open eyes, open frown, raised eyebrows, and a pale blue forehead, as if experiencing a <a href="/cold-face/">cold</a> flash.</p>

<p>While intended to represent fear (less intense than <a href="/face-screaming-in-fear/">😱&nbsp;Face Screaming in Fear</a>), it also conveys a wide variety of emotions, including feeling amazed, shocked, sad, upset, and <a href="/cold-face/">cold</a>. Bears the same expression as <a href="/anguished-face/">😧&nbsp;Anguished Face</a> on most platforms.</p>

<p>Unlike other vendors, Huawei&#39;s design shows this emoji holding a hand over its mouth, albeit differently to&nbsp;<a href="/face-with-open-eyes-and-hand-over-mouth">🫢&nbsp;Face with Open Eyes and Hand Over Mouth</a>&nbsp;and <a href="/face-with-hand-over-mouth">🤭 Face with Hand Over Mouth</a>.&nbsp;Samsung&rsquo;s design previously showed upper teeth and tongue.</p>

Fearful Face

<p>A yellow face with simple open eyes showing clenched teeth. May represent a range of negative or tense emotions, especially nervousness, embarrassment, or awkwardness (e.g., <i>Eek!</i>).</p>

<p>Resembled <a href="/beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes/">😁 Beaming Face With Smiling Eyes</a> on Apple iOS <a href="/apple/ios-8.3/beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes/">prior to 2016</a>. Apple&rsquo;s design for <a href="/cold-face/">🥶 Cold Face</a> features the same mouth. Samsung&#39;s design <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/grimacing-face/">previously featured</a> more puckered-looking lips.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On&nbsp;<a href="/snapchat/" title="👻 Snapchat Emoji &amp; Emoticon Meanings">Snapchat</a>, this&nbsp;emoji next to a contact denotes that you send the most snaps to the same person that they do., i.e.,&nbsp;you share a <em>#1 Best Friend</em>.</p>

Grimacing Face

<p>A face with open eyes and a small, open frown. Its eyebrows are furrowed, with a single bead of cold sweat dripping down, and its forehead is pale blue, as if experiencing a <a href="/cold-face/">cold</a> flash. Samsung&#39;s design shows upper teeth and tongue.</p>

<p>Meaning widely varies, but commonly conveys such feelings as sadness, disappointment, fear, and anxiety. Similar to <a href="/sad-but-relieved-face/">😥&nbsp;Sad but Relieved Face</a>, but with a blue head and larger frown.</p>

<p>Not to be confused with <a href="/crying-face/">😢&nbsp;Crying Face</a>, <a href="/sleepy-face/">😪&nbsp;Sleepy Face</a>, or other emojis with tear or sweat droplets. <a href="/microsoft/windows-8.1/anxious-face-with-sweat/">Microsoft</a> and <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/anxious-face-with-sweat/">Samsung</a> previously featured smileys that appeared more excited in expression.</p>

<p>Unicode 14.0 is the version of the Unicode Standard&nbsp;released on&nbsp;September 14, 2021.&nbsp;37 new emoji&nbsp;code points were added in this release,&nbsp;with all 112 new emojis (including sequences for skin tones)&nbsp;listed under <a href="/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a>.</p>

<p>New emojis&nbsp;added in this release are update expected to come to major platforms in either late 2021 or early&nbsp;2022.</p>

<p>South Korean financial technology company Toss (토스) provides its own emoji design set within its mobile application. The design set, entitled Toss Face (토스페이스), has also been made available as a free font file for Apple devices.</p>

<p>First launched in early 2022, the Toss Face emoji set originally included a series of intentionally divergent emoji designs compared to those of other vendors.</p>

<p>The majority of these divergent designs followed two broad themes. Firstly,&nbsp;rendering culturally-specific Japanese emojis with designs representing related South Korean concepts (e.g. the <a href="/sake/">🍶 Sake</a> emoji appearing as <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makgeolli">makgeolli</a>).</p>

<p>Secondly, emojis&nbsp;representing older technologies with designs representing more contemporary innovations. (e.g. <a href="/pager/">📟 Pager</a> displaying as instant messaging speech bubbles; <a href="/auto-rickshaw/">🛺 Auto Rickshaw</a> being displyed as a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unmanned_aerial_vehicle">drone</a>).</p>

<p>In March 2022 these divergent designs were updated to accurately reflect Unicode&#39;s recommendations. In April 2022 they were re-added to the Toss app using <a href="https://emojipedia.org/glossary/">Private Use Area</a> codepoints.&nbsp;</p>

Fintech app Toss (토스) emoji designs and design history

<p>Released 2022-08-16, this Toss Face emoji update&nbsp;added support for <a href="https://emojipedia.org/emoji-14.0/">Emoji 14.0</a> and updated several existing emoji designs&nbsp;to better match those of other vendors.</p>

<p>The update also re-introduced a series of&nbsp;Korean-oriented and future-oriented emoji designs to the Toss Face emoji set via <a href="https://emojipedia.org/glossary/#pua">Private User Area</a> characters.</p>
