While this emoji is often used by people calling themselves nerds in a self-deprecating way, the nerdy glasses paired with buck teeth can, and often does, evoke anti-Asian stereotypes. The fact that the default color of emoji faces is yellow further pushes this emoji into racist &quot;<a href="https://hyperallergic.com/189200/asians-meet-new-yellow-emoji-with-frowny-face/">yellowface</a>&quot;&nbsp;territory.

Some platforms have redesigned nerd face&nbsp;over time to not have buck teeth, perhaps in acknowledgement of the harm this imagery&nbsp;may cause. Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, and JoyPixels <a href="/google/android-7.0/nerd-face/">originally</a> <a href="/facebook/2.0/nerd-face/">featured</a> <a href="/joypixels/4.0/nerd-face/">designs</a> with buck teeth but have since changed (or completely removed) the teeth on nerd face.

Apple, Twitter, Microsoft, Samsung, and other platforms still use designs for this emoji that include buck teeth.

Thinking Face

A yellow face with a broad, closed smile wearing black <a href="/sunglasses/">sunglasses</a>, as if a pair of classic <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray-Ban_Wayfarer">Wayfarers</a>. Often used to convey the slang&nbsp;sense of <a href="/cool-button/">cool</a>. May also express a confident, carefree attitude or that something is excellent.

<a href="/nerd-face/">🤓&nbsp;Nerd Face</a> wears similarly shaped <a href="/glasses/">eyeglasses</a>.

On <a href="/snapchat/">Snapchat</a>, this emoji next to a contact denotes that you have best friends in common with this person.

Smiling Face with Sunglasses

A laptop personal computer. Depicted as a black or gray device, opened to show a dark or blue screen, keyboard, and touchpad.

Commonly used for various content concerning computer technology, work, and activity.

Previous designs resembled a <a href="/desktop-computer/">desktop computer</a>&nbsp;(e.g., <a href="/apple/ios-9.0/laptop/">iMac</a>) on many platforms, hence its Unicode name of&nbsp;Personal Computer. Apple&rsquo;s design now resembles a MacBook.

Personal Computer

An apparatus for distilling, as used in medieval <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemy">alchemy</a>. Generally depicted as a round flask with a neck angled down to the right. Positioned on a short stand and containing a mysterious green, purple, or blue liquid.

Commonly used for various content concerning chemistry and science more generally. May represent various liquids, such as potions or&nbsp;medicines, as well as metaphorical laboratories and experiments.

Thanks to the alembic&rsquo;s association with alchemy, this emoji may also convey a sense of magic. And, thanks to its resemblance to a glass pipe, some use the emoji&nbsp;to represent&nbsp;a bong or other drug paraphernalia.

Samsung&rsquo;s design <a href="/samsung/experience-9.0/alembic/">previously featured</a>&nbsp;a copper still, as used for making <a href="/tumbler-glass/">whiskey</a>.

Alembic

A desktop personal computer. Generally depicted as a black or gray monitor with a dark or blue screen.

Like <a href="/laptop/">💻 Laptop Computer</a>, used for various content concerning computer technology, work, and activity. May also be used to represent <a href="/laptop/">television</a>, as it resembles a flatscreen TV.

Google and WhatsApp include <a href="/keyboard/">keyboards</a>. Apple&rsquo;s design resembles an iMac. <a href="/microsoft/windows-10-anniversary-update/desktop-computer/">Microsoft</a> and <a href="/samsung/touchwiz-7.1/desktop-computer/">Samsung&rsquo;s</a> designs previously featured PC towers.

On platforms such as TikTok an alternative&nbsp;meaning of this emoji is to represent &#39;giving head&#39; (<a href="/nsfw/">NSFW meanings</a>).

The Unicode Consortium has approved the following 41 emoji characters as part of <a href="http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode8.0.0/">Unicode 8.0</a>, released on June 17, 2015. When Twitter users are uploading an image within&nbsp;the platform&#39;s&nbsp;mobile app, they are able to make a variety of different&nbsp;edits to that image before posting the image as part of a tweet.

One edit option is the ability to overlay sticker icon on top of the uploaded image, and as of October&nbsp;2022 the&nbsp;available sticker options include&nbsp;a custom set of glossy, highly-detailed emoji images.&nbsp;

At present, these Twitter Emoji Stickers support emojis from up to late 2020&#39;s Emoji 13.1 recommendations. It is not presently known if or when these glossy designs will replace Twitter&#39;s long-standing open-source Twemoji emoji designs within tweets themselves.

These emoji designs&nbsp;are also currently used for the platform&#39;s Twitter Status feature, where&nbsp;users are able&nbsp;tag tweets with one of several pre-defined&nbsp;statuses consisting of an emoji design and text, such as &quot;✨ That&#39;s it, that&#39;s the Tweet&quot;.

Select designs from this sticker set first began to appear across different Twitter features from early 2021, such as the platform&#39;s short-lived Fleets feature.
