New Moon

A new moon, the first of the eight phases of the moon. Depicts the moon as a full, bluish- or grayish-black, cratered disc, not illuminated by the sun.

May be used to represent the moon more generally, nighttime, outer space, and astronomy. May also be used to convey enchanting or eerie feelings.

Google’s new moon was previously a gray circle with a yellow outline. Samsung’s design once resembled a full moon with stars and previously displayed as a new moon in a night sky with stars.

New Moon was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 under the name "New Moon Symbol" and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
