iOS 5.0 - 12 October 2011
iOS 5.0 supported emoji characters in the private use area, prior to inclusion of emoji in the Unicode Standard.
These were not cross-platform compatible, and have been included here for image reference. Codepoints have been updated to match the current release of the Unicode Standard.
iOS 5.0 was released on October 12, 2011. This released did not add any new emojis, but changed a number of emoji designs including 🍳 Cooking (previously an egg being cracked), 🐚 Spiral Shell (previously a fan shaped shell), 🎓 Graduation Cap (previously a Graduation shirt) and ⛳ Flag in Hole (previously a golf ball).
This emoji update was not made available for Mac OS X.
