Bell Emoji Meaning

A gold or yellow bell, which is commonly used on mobile phones as an icon for notifications or ringing sounds.

This emoji saw a spike in use after a 2015 Game of Thrones episode that featured a character ringing a bell and chanting โ€œShame!โ€ while parading another through the streets. The scene became a popular meme, with this emoji still occasionally paired with the word โ€œshameโ€ to reference the moment and meme.

This emoji predates the inclusion of emojis within Unicode. It was first added to early Japanese emoji keyboards by au by KDDI in 1999.

Bell was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
